Microsoft said this week that the most recent Windows security update for Windows 10 and Windows 11 may break VPN connections. According to Microsoft (via Bleeping Computer), “Windows devices might face VPN connection failures after installing the April 2024 security update, or KB5036893.” Microsoft has no fix at the current time, the company said. “We are working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release,” the company said. Unfortunately, the list of affected clients is rather lengthy: Windows 11 (23H2, 22H2, and 21H2) as well as Windows 10 (22H2 and 21H2). Macworld Finally, 30 months after Apple announced the 24-inch iMac in a collection of seven different colors and powered by Apple’s M1 Chip in April 2021, Apple has updated the iMac with an M3 chip. The 2023 iMac, which was announced in October 2023 and went on sale in November, is a leap up from the 2021 iMac, although not much else has changed. Read about the 2023 iMac and our review of the 2023 M3 iMac. Apple discontinued the 27-inch iMac in March 2022, but it is rumored that a new iMac Pro could be in the pipeline. If that is the Mac you are interested in you may be in for a long wait though, with the larger iMac not expected until late 2024 or 2025. Alternatively, you may be interested in Apple’s high-power desktop, the Mac Studio, see our Best Mac Studio deals. The Mac mini with M2 Pro is another good option, see Best Mac mini deals. With the arrival of the M3 iMac the M1 iMac will no longer be sold by Apple, but you may find those older models available at a discount from resellers while they try to sell off old stock. Note that while the prices remain the same, the M1 iMac did have a price increase outside the U.S. a year after launch, so the savings may not be as good as they appear to be. In our review of the M2 Max Mac Studio we were impressed by its processing power, port flexibility, and design. We are already seeing some deals on the M2-generation Mac Studio. You may also find the M1-generation on sale and if you do you may find a good discount on that model, just keep in mind, if you are outside the U.S., that the old model already had a lower price than the M2-model. I find it really hard to recommend any Windows-powered machine these days with less than 16GB of memory. Windows 11, not to mention essentials like Chrome and other browsers, just chug on anything less. So it’s great to see a dependable 15-inch laptop from Dell going for as little as $359.99, at least if you jump through a hoop or two. Dell is selling an Inspiron 15, with a 12th-gen Intel Core i5, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of SSD storage for $399.99, already a very solid $150 off the regular price. But as a poster on SlickDeals notes, you might be able to get an even lower price if you haven’t subscribed to Dell’s promotional emails. You can click here to add your email to the list, wait up to half an hour, and you should get a one-time use coupon for 10 percent off a purchase. That brings the final price of the laptop down to just $359.99 before tax and shipping. It’s a damn good deal for a Windows laptop, let alone one with a decent processor, drive, and memory.
